You are actually sitting on a planet which is revolving around our Sun at about 67,000 miles per hour. Wow, that's fast! Not really. The Sun is travelling thru space at a speed of ~240 miles per second and we're all along for the ride. 2,400 miles in the time it took to read the above. The Sun is our Star, and as you would expect, our Star is hot, bright, dynamic, and sometimes quite violent. At 93 million miles away, we are ideally placed at a point where the Sun provides just enough warmth and energy essential to our living planet, Earth. |
