Adusting focus

Postby Alain Lavigne » Sun Mar 07, 2010 4:30 pm

I just received my LH60 double stack. I am having a lot of trouble getting focus. I tried an Orion 25mm plossl, I tried 40 mm scopetronix, I tried a 7mm and 10 mm Speers-waller and nothing comes close to focus except my 14mm Speers waller. I am a beginner in this type of solar viewing and it looks to me that if I could justs turn the focus knob a bit more everything would be great. I must be missing something. Your expertise would be appreciated. Thank you.

I too have a LH60 with the double stack filter, and have no problems focusing.
With the featherlight focuser you have to slacken off the two thumbscrews and slide the filter and diagonal out about 3cm or 1 1/4 " in old money. Then use the coarse and fine focus as required.

I'm using Meade 4000 plossls, mostly the 20, 15 and 12mm.

Hi Alan,
John is right on the money. It sounds like you are not pulling out your diagonal slide tube about 25cm to get your rough focus. Then use your focuser to achive focus. See if this helps. If you are still having problems please let me know.

Thank you gentlemen for your help. You are right about pulling the diagonal out as suggested. If I had taken the time to read the owner's manual carefully I would have seen it. My apologies and thank you again.
